FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
DBT is a type of CBT. Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, cope healthily with emotions and improve relationships.
DBT is a skills-based therapy that includes four modules of new learning:
- Emotion Recognition: Identifying and acknowledging emotions is essential, as one cannot change something they are not aware of.
- Mindfulness Skills: Developing mindfulness helps individuals stay present and aware of their thoughts and feelings without being overwhelmed by them.
- Distress Tolerance: These skills help individuals endure and cope with distressing situations without resorting to negative behaviors.
- Interpersonal Effectiveness: Learning how to interact effectively and assertively with others enhances relationships and helps individuals live a life worth living.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) are two prominent therapeutic approaches used to treat various mental health conditions. Although they share similarities, they also have distinct differences in their methods and objectives.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT was founded in the 1980s by Aaron Beck. The therapy connects thoughts, or the words in your head (cognition), with feelings. Beck’s approach posits that if you think you have no friends, you may feel lonely, and if you think life is difficult, you may feel overwhelmed. Emotions often follow the cognitive interpretation of events in the environment. The central premise of CBT is that by altering negative thought patterns, one can influence emotional responses and behaviors.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a later therapeutic approach developed by Marsha Linehan in the 1990s. Linehan, who suffered from serious mental illness herself, discovered that it was not sufficient to understand the connection between thoughts and feelings alone. She found that learning how to manage unmanageable feelings was crucial for effective treatment. DBT involves learning new skills to form a platform for dealing with emotional overwhelm or emotion dysregulation.
In summary, while CBT focuses on changing negative thought patterns to influence emotions and behaviors, DBT emphasizes managing intense emotions and developing practical skills to cope with life’s challenges. Both therapies offer valuable tools for improving mental health, but they cater to different aspects of emotional and cognitive functioning.
DBT assists with conditions associated with overwhelming emotions. Mood-based disorders, anxiety, stress, anger, eating disorders, relationship issues and sober living support.
DBT is skills based learning that can change your life. It is taught in four domains: Mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and personal interaction skills.
DBT is one of the most thoroughly researched therapies. In depth studies demonstrate its effectiveness in dealing with overwhelming emotional conditions.

Free Initial Assessment: Our clients receive a complimentary initial assessment to discuss therapy options and any concerns they may have.
Tailored Treatment Plan: During this “information gathering” session, we will create a personalized treatment plan. Clients will then be guided to the most suitable therapy package, which may include workshops, one-on-one therapy sessions, or a combination of both.
Individual Therapy Sessions: Individual therapy sessions are priced at $145.00 each.
Workshops for Specific Issues: If clients require any of the topics listed on our workshop site, they will be informed that these workshops address specific problems such as anger or anxiety. Workshops are scheduled for specific days and times and consist of four two-hour sessions over four consecutive weeks. The cost is $180.00 per session, or $690.00 for all four sessions.
Commitment and Structure: To ensure consistency and group cohesion, we ask clients to commit to the full four-week program and pay upfront. The groups are closed, meaning the same participants will stay together throughout the workshop series.
Scheduling and Flexibility: New clients will be scheduled for the next available start date. If there is enough demand, we may start a second group on another day or run the same workshop topic twice a week.
Wrap-Up Session: At the end of the four-week workshop, clients will receive a complimentary one-on-one wrap-up or feedback session.
